02/22/2019: Carter Bank & Trust Host Book Drive for Total Action for Progress

Nine Roanoke Branches at Carter Bank & Trust organized individual book drives to support Total Action for Progress (TAP). The staff at each branch donated books and also engaged customers to be involved to support TAP. Branches collected and donated a total of 3,076 books in one week. TAP will sell a portion of the books to fund their various programs and the remainder will be available for use by lower income residents in the area.

The Blue Ridge Branch collected a total of 816 books and were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation and a catered lunch from Olive Garden. The Southeast Branch collected 696 books, Peters Creek Branch 577 books and Franklin Road Branch collected a total of 400 books.

TAP is a community action agency that serves eleven localities in the Roanoke Valley and adjacent communities. The community action agency is an anti-poverty organization that was originally enabled by the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. Community action is about getting people involved in their own lives and enabling them to help themselves – not about fixing things for now or providing hand-outs.
