11/27/2018: Roanoke City School Board recognizes Carter Bank & Trust

The Roanoke City School Board recently recognized Carter Bank & Trust representatives from the First National Region for the donation as Gold Sponsor for the Breakfast with Santa at William Fleming High School.   This was the third consecutive year the STAR Council (Students Take Action in Roanoke) held a pancake breakfast.  The donation was made to the Help the Homeless Fund.  The donation will assist students identified as homeless and provide assistance to families from becoming homeless.  To date, the school system has spent $22,000 helping 145 families (307 students). The fund pays for things like a utility bill or rent to prevent evictions. The funding is being used to fill the gaps after all other community resources have been exhausted.
